Kirsten Dunst is amazing in this movie, so much so, that I almost called her Kirsten "Durst". And, of course, this movie is supposed to be based on the the real-life drama of serial killer is that still only "alleged"?
This movie is too sympathetic towards Robert Durst, perhaps because Ryan Gosling is really too pretty to play him? There also isn't enough character development of the Robert Durst stand-in, though that's not Gosling's fault.
Kirsten's performance makes this entire movie worthwhile, and it shows how good, dynamic women can get sucked into a psychopath's drama, wanting to rescue him, while he is just driven to steal her shine and make her have abortions in this case.

You will be careful about your next date or marriage for As I was watching this movie, I was recollecting the newspaper articles I'd read about the "true events" that inspired it.
It's a strange, strange story and it seems to me that the screenplay tried to make it less strange by psychologically profiling David Marks fictional name, played by Ryan Gosling , a character who is put on trial for murdering a neighbor two decades after his wife disappears.
The trial brings into question David's past -- including his myseriously missing wife -- and is the device used to tell his life story. The film takes the stance that David ultimately gets away with three murders, but it also focuses on his disturbing childhood and strained relationship with his very wealthy, well-connected and corrupt father played by Frank Langella , a New York State real estate mogul with political pull.
I felt like I was supposed to walk away from the film with a greater understanding of why David was a pyschopath, but honestly I didn't care that much about him -- I cared about his wife, Katie, played incredibly well by Kirsten Dunst.
Katie is a key character, but her relationship with David isn't explored enough to satisfy me. This may be because it's David who's telling the story.
The scenes we're shown during his testimony do provide insight into his abusiveness towards her. What they don't do is explain what the heck Katie was thinking; her family is present throughout the film, but her social life prior to meeting David isn't incorporated at all and no one questions the earnestness with which she initially devotes herself to him.
She's more like a pawn, or a plot device, than a fully fleshed out person. It's intimated that she likes David's money, but she also seems to really like him, which doesn't make sense.
Katie is beautiful and smart enough to get into med school; David isn't particuarly physically attractive and his character has zero personality and ambition this isn't "The Notebook".
The time line is weird too. Katie and David are married in and when it seems like only a few years have gone by, it's suddently And the couple seems to be as unfamiliar with each other as they were a decade before.
During the course of the movie, David goes from being someone with "issues" to a full-fledged pyschopath. Eventually, he starts dressing in women's clothing.
Yet it's all pretty boring. I think this has to do with the constraint of David being the narrator.
He tells the story he wants everyone to believe -- he is on trial -- while we're shown the "actual" according to the screenplay events as only he would know them.
The film does let us in on too much by showing scenes in which David doesn't appear, which is a common and forgivable transgression.
But it never truly veers far enough from David's point-of-view to be thrilling or achieve an effective level of depth. He claims he's dressing as a woman because he doesn't want to be recognized,and that's that.
The scenes that are the most revealing are the ones between David and his father, which makes sense since the movie is about David. But Katie Kirsten is the one who shines and the one in whom I was invested.
There's a lot of viewing time left after she disappears, and she really just disappears. It left me feeling that the movie was uneven and didn't fulfill its full potential.
Kirsten Dunst certainly fulfills her potential in this movie with a truly excellent performance that should have garnered more attention. For a supremely good movie along the lines of "All Good Things," see "Reversal of Fortune" starring Jeremy Irons and Glenn Close -- a dramatization of the real-life appeal of Claus van Bulow's attempted murder conviction for putting his heiress wife in a permanent vegetative state.
Irons won an Oscar for his performance. I found this movie extremely engaging, thrilling and mesmerising in so many ways.
I was in awe firstly with the script writers as they kept you on the edge of your seat as to where the situation would take you from scene to scene.
Secondly I was in awe of the actors Ryan Gosling, Kirsten Dunst and Frank Langella who were so wonderful in their characterisations of these very complex individuals, mind you we are now talking about extremely masterful stars that have been so immensely credible in all genres that they have acted in the past, particularly Frank Langella.
Thirdly that this story was taken from hundreds of pages of transcrips from a real crime file and re-written so masterfully to capture one's immagination and leaving the viewer at the end of this movie with so many ideas that could have changed these sad peoples lives.
As mere humans we all get roads to travel and not all the times do we chose the best one, with a brighter ending to our life, in a way our life is shaped with the past that we have endured that makes us chose what is right in our minds and sometimes turns out so horribly wrong.
Basically I do agree with the previous people who previewed this movie and I don't want to repeat what they have already written but I must add that having seen this DVD tonight, I could not wait to sit down and write about it while it still played on my mind and so I am definitely sure that you will feel the same way as this movie or true story that it was will haunt you and saddened you with the character that Ryan Gosling portrays.

In this thriller slash drama flick based upon a real missing person's case, Ryan Gosling plays David Marks the son of a wealthy real estate magnate in New York who, affected by watching his mother's death when he was 7 years old, loses patience with his wife Kirsten Dunst, and looks to end their marriage in a very permanent way.
His wife clearly comes from a family nothing like the Marks and from the beginning was treated like an outsider. The senior Marks focuses all of his effort on running his real estate empire and doesn't pay anywhere near enough attention to his son who clearly has been slipping away from him for many years.
Although this crime still hasn't been solved more than 30 years since his wife dissapeared, the amazing thing is that David Marks--as you learn right at the end of the movie--still lives in Florida as a real estate investor.
I thought the movie moved along at a pretty decent clip most of the time. It was somewhat unclear to me towards the end of the story if the events portrayed were in fact where the case stands today or if the screen writers took some liberties with the ending.
Overall a good story and a good secondary lesson for parents who put too much stress on their kids to follow their lead.
I recommend this movie as a good Saturday night watch. This could have had class, it could have been something, instead of just blah. This movie was great until it ended.
The biggest problem with this movie is also it's biggest strength. That being that it's based on actual events and real people.
The fact that so much of this is fact makes it all the more intriguing and thought provoking. However as well all know from the news, this whole case, the whole story is not finished.
Just like the real life story, the movie is a piece unfinished. I'm sure that since Durst is still alive that they can't even make up a finish or what happened for fear of slander or something like that.
Wait till the facts come to the surface or after there's no fear of backlash, and then finish the story and make the movie.

Report abuse Translate review to English. Hard Rock liegen. Wahnsinnssong der live sicher abgefeiert wird! Im Duett wird das live wahrscheinlich schwierig umzusetzen sein was zwar schade ist aber Ji-In hat bereits bei Konzerten gezeigt dass sie den Song auch alleine tragen kann.

I thought the movie moved along at a pretty decent clip most of the time. It needs much of the same ingredients, just a little tighter, giving less the impression of a patchwork of assembled good songs and more the feeling of a whole construct.
In the process, both band had lost most of their character and if you could like their albums, if was difficult to care. It still contains good tight rockers that would have been at home on the previous album alongside Ignition, like Messiah, You Kill Me or Higher.
But it also resurrects the slightly cheesy yet always enjoyable low-latin metal of previous albums with Victoria and if you get a version of the album with the extra tracks a new version of Liberatio.
With The Eye Collector, Krypteria does not recycle its old material. I am not sure it should have worked, but it does. Also, since she does not quite have the vocal chops of many of her symphonic metal colleagues, having more of a tense, metallic pop voice, she uses her voice to the best effect.
All Beauty Must Die is highly recommended, to witness a work in progress, wishing that it will be to Krypteria what Meddle once was to Pink Floyd.
Can they deliver a couple of years from now? For now, let them enjoy a pretty good success. I love the song Victoria.
Great band. Boyfriend is a fan and loved this album. Actually bought the cd for the duet with Doro ,as it turns out I really like the whole cd.
One person found this helpful. I have every single song from Krypteria but this is the first time in years that I actualy bought a CD. I also had the chance to meet Frank,Chris and Kuschie personaly and they are totaly down to earth guys.
Ji-In was sadly otherwise occupied. Anyway, I have been waiting for this CD for the last weeks and the waiting was worth it.
If you don't believe me They interact for real with their fans. No Bull. Wish I could rate it but I cannot since Amazon. That sucks.
