Despite its increasing commercial success, the band bore the stigma of being part of the right wing until its end.
The Onkelz faced considerable criticism, which led to radio stations refusing to play their songs. Many observers did not believe that the band had "seen the light", considering their exit from the white-power scene as a strategem to avoid bans and prosecution.
